Verbal Simple Past Tense

A. Definition

Simple past tense adalah kalimat yang digunakan untuk mengungkapkan suatu kejadian yang terjadi di masa lampau dan selesai atau berakhir di masa lampau juga. Verbal berarti dalam satu kalimat simple past tense terdapat kata kerja (verb). Bedanya dalam kalimat positif menggunakan kata kerja bentuk ke-2. Perubahan kata kerja pertama, kedua dan ketiga harus dilihat pada daftar terutama untuk irregular verb, karena ada yang berubah beraturan (regular verb) dan tidak beraturan (irregular verb).

(+) S + V2+ Object/Complement.

(-) S + did not + V1 + Object/Complement.

(?) Did + S+ V1 + Object/Complement?

Answer:

(+) Yes, + S + did.

(-) No, + S + didn't.

C. Example:

(+) Azqia went to school yesterday morning. (Azqia pergi ke sekolah kemarin pagi.)

(-) Azqia didn't go to school yesterday afternoon. (Azqia tidak pergi ke sekolah kemarin siang.)

(?) Did Azqia go to school yesterday morning? (Apakah Azqia pergi ke sekolah kemarin pagi?)

Answer:

(+) Yes, she did. (Ya, dia melakukannya.)
